Thread-Topic: TOM BUTT E-FORUM: Recalling a City Council Member

So many people have asked me about how to recall Corky Booze that I am providing that information here instead of responding individually.

The City of Richmond Charter, Article VIII, states: “The Recall, Initiative and Referendum - Sec. 1. (Amended at election June 4, 1968) The powers of recall, initiative and referendum shall be exercised in accordance with the constitution and general laws of the State of California. (Secs. 2 and 3 repealed at election June 4, 1968.)”

The recall process for a City Councilmember may be found in Part II of http://www.sos.ca.gov/elections/recall.pdf.

It is a complicated process and ultimately requires petitions with 20% of registered voters, which would be about 8,000 people.

I don’t think there has ever been a successful recall in Richmond history.
