MAJOR REPAVING WORK ALONG SAN PABLO DAM ROAD IN EL SOBRANTE
BETWEEN EL PORTAL DRIVE AND TRI LANE
Expect traffic delays
CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, July 8, 2008 Supervisor Gioia announced today that
the Board of Supervisors awarded a $2.1 million contract to Ghilotti Brothers,
Inc. for the San Pablo Dam Road Rehabilitation project. The resurfacing of San
Pablo Dam Road is approximately 3.3 miles long starting at El Portal Drive and
ending at Tri Lane in the El Sobrante area.
The project involves a bonded wearing course pavement overlay, pavement grinding,
pavement and base failure repairs, adjusting utility covers, curb ramp upgrades
to meet current Americans with Disabilities Act standards, traffic signal modifications,
and installing traffic striping and markings. This work is expected to begin
on July 28th and be completed by October 31st.
The majority of this project is funded by Proposition 1B, the 2006 voter-approved
transportation bond. The innovative benefits of a bonded wearing course pavement
overlay versus a traditional pavement overlay include a smoother road surface,
a reduction of the noise from vehicle tires, and a quicker turnaround in reopening
lanes for traffic.
To minimize impact to motorists, paving work through the business district area
between El Portal Drive and Milton Drive will possibly be performed at night
to avoid impacts during commute hours. Temporary lane closures will also be
necessary, and motorists should be prepared for possible delays. The exact dates
and times of the planned lane closures along San Pablo Dam Road will be posted
on electronic message boards by the contractor, a minimum of 48 hours advance
notice.
